The reality is you will grieve forever.
You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same or would you want to”
Elizabeth Kubler Ross
WHAT IS GRIEF?
Grief is a normal and natural reaction to a connection that has been lost. Whilst grief is usually associated with the loss of a loved one, it isn’t limited to death.
It can be the loss of a relationship, livelihood or some other significant life changing event.
Following a significant loss, we can feel as though our world has been tipped upside down and experience intense feelings of sadness. It often changes the way in which we view the world.
Grieving is hard work and can leave us feeling isolated, overwhelmed and sometimes unable to cope with day to day life.
Grief doesn’t just affect us emotionally, it can take its toll physically, behaviourally and spiritually. The intensity of the emotional pain can affect our immune system and our appetite and sleep may be disturbed.
There are many reactions that can result from grief ranging from anger, guilt, panic and sometimes relief.
Most importantly grief is an extremely individual experience as everybody grieves in their own way.
